Our matches with Bromsgrove are rarely dull and this one lived up to expectations. Three sending off's, two penalties and plenty of chances to score. Unfortunately we slipped to a 1-3 defeat which keeps us down in the lower reaches of the table.

On a dry autumnal day. Copsewood kicked towards the river end and took the lead after a couple of minutes. New signing David Blenkinsopp latched onto a ball over the Bromsgrove defence and showed his class by lashing the ball into the net.

The lead only lasted five minutes. Bromsgrove had a shot which struck the post and the rebound was struck into the net. Copsewood moved the ball neatly to Jack Downes at the far post. But Bromsgrove's goalie - Christopher Jay smothered his shot. Bromsgrove nearly took the lead. But Mathew Burt managed to clear from the ground and right in front of the net. George Whitelaw's free kick was headed over the bar by Craig Civzelis at the far post.

While at the other end, Sean Brain seized on a half clearance and fired just over the bar. A free kick for Bromsgove saw a free header in front of goal go wide. Which was a let off for Copsewood.

But Bromsgrove took the lead after a penalty was awarded for Mathew Burt attempting to tackle Sean Brain. Sean's shot fizzed harmlessly across the face of the goal. But the referee must have seen some intent and pointed to the spot! Dale went the wrong way and Bromsgrove were in front.

A flowing Copsewood move saw David Blenkinsopp shoot wide and Dale O'Donnell spread himself to stop Sean Brain's racing through on goal.

The second half saw Dale save low to stop Bromsgrove increasing their lead. A ball down the right flank saw the ball go past Dale. But Matthew Burt was on hand with a diving tackle to stop the danger. The Bromsgrove manager was sent to the stands- presumably for a comment to the officials. A Bromsgrove header was tipped brilliantly over the bar by Dale.

Then Craig Civzelis was given a second yellow card and thus a red card for out-jumping Aaron Roberts to the ball! The referee saw it as an elbow. Me and Tony were only standing a few yards away and we didn't see it even as a free kick.

Bromsgrove duly scored a third goal with a header by substitute Chris Conway that lopped into the net. They nearly scored a Paul Gascoigne type (1996 v Scotland) goal. But Dale turned the volley around the post.

Copsewood nearly pulled a goal back. Lawrence Rawlings volleyed the ball towards the net and it went off the hand of Aaron Roberts and the referee gave a penalty and sent Roberts off. As Alan commented. His hand was in a unnatural position for a defender. i.e. Above his head. So you can see why it was given. With the last kick of the match David Blenkinsopp stepped up. But Bromsgrove's Christopher Jay made a comfortable save.

Meanwhile Aaron Roberts was not taking his dismissal very well and seemed to be intent on picking a fight (not for the first time- half time at Bromsgrove last season) with anyone. As some XXL rugby players had gathered by the dressing rooms. This did not seem the most inspired decision. But he did manage to come back on the pitch and push Matty. Before being led off by his management team.

Anyway back to football and next Saturday we entertain Atherstone Town in the FA Vase at Allard Way.
