We played better than we did on Monday afternoon at Southam. But football can be a cruel game and we ended up on the wrong end of an unflattering 1-5 reverse in our first home match of the season. There are a lot of tough matches coming up against clubs at the top end of the table in the next few weeks. But if we can draw from the positives in this performance and tighten up defensively. Then I am sure that we can raise our game. Some of the goals we conceded were when we were chasing the game and had sacrificed defensive players for attackers.
Rain on Saturday morning and early afternoon had more or less stopped by kick off time. Leaving an excellent pitch in prime condition for a passing game. Uttoxeter Town had travelled down from Staffordshire. But it was Copsewood who took the lead early on when a cross to the far post was neatly controlled by Jack Downes, who tuned inside a couple of defenders and hit the ball into the corner of the net.
Uttoxeter's skilful left winger:- Luke George Lewis caused problems and took out four Copsewood players with some excellent play and the resulting low cross was struck wide at the far post. It was end to end and entertaining stuff from both sides.
A Danny Fraser cross from the left was glanced wide by debutant Arron Cooke. While Uttoxeter's Luke Lewis (not Luke George Lewis!) did a neat turn and run, which ended with a shot going just wide. Uttoxeter equalised after 36 minutes when Luke George Lewis (not Luke Lewis!) cut infield and unleashed a shot into the roof of the net.
1-1 at half time and the match was nicely poised. The second half saw Dale make a good low save as Uttoxeter broke through. While another Danny Fraser cross to the far post was headed wide by Arron Cooke. We went behind from a corner. When Uttoxeter's substitute - Harry Price rose on the edge of the 6 yard box to plant a free header into the corner of the net.
Uttoxeter nearly increased their lead when a free kick was spilled to a Uttoxeter attacker. But fortunately he lifted his shot over the bar. Copseood came back into the game and forced a succession of corners. One of which was dropped by the Uttoxeters goalie on or over his goal line. But it was impossible to tell from where we were standing.
After Uttoxeter had withstood our period of pressure, they broke away down the left flank and the cross was converted to make it 1-3. Luke Lewis then raced through to make it 1-4 and then Harry Price squeezed a shot in from a tight angle on the right. Michael Healy had a powerful volley painfully blocked by a Uttoxeter defender as Copsewood sought a consolation goal. But it wasn't to be and next week we welcome Lichfield City to Allard Way.

Uttoxeter Team:- Alex Langridge, Joe Lews, Oliver Ritchie, Joel Dyche, Douglas William Price, Callum Lovatt, James Hornsey, Kyle Esplin, Luke Lewis, Martin Gadsby, Luke George Lewis. Sub: Harry Price
